The Cherwell Singers present
A French Christmas
St Margaret’s Church, Oxford OX2 6RX
Sunday 11th December 2022, 7.30pm
In 2020 the Cherwell Singers presented a concert of German Christmas music, and this year we decided to do a similar one of Christmas music from France.
Several of the most popular carols we sing in this country have a French origin, such as “Ding Dong Merrily on High”, and “Angels from the Realms of Glory”, to name but a couple, and we will be performing arrangements of these. Also featured will be some of Poulenc’s Christmas motets, as well as the much loved “O Holy Night” by Adolphe Adam, and works by Dupre, and Du Caurroy. French Christmas organ music will be performed by Dónal McCann, assistant organist of New College.
Do join us at St Margaret’s Church at 7.30 on Sunday December 11th to enjoy a Gallic collection of carols from the Renaissance to the twentieth century.
